2013 Black-Eyed Susan Day
For the fourth consecutive year, the Maryland Jockey Club and the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® join together to raise funds to aid awareness on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday, May 17, 2013. We invite you to review the event line-up below for many diverse and exciting experiences offered, all in support of Komen Maryland!
On Black-Eyed Susan Day, 89 breast cancer survivors will be invited as guests of Pimlico, where they will be honored in festivities throughout the day. Pimlico will donate 10% of all Friday Turfside Terrace ticket sales (including the Friday portion of the two-day Preakness ticket) to Komen Maryland.
Pimlico and Komen Maryland are pleased to welcome back a special opportunity for an individual to serve as Ms. Preakness Pink Warrior, the official ambassador of the Preakness, representing the Maryland Jockey Club at Black-Eyed Susan Day, Preakness events and on Preakness Day, including the presentation of the Woodlawn Vase on the storied cupola after the 138th Preakness Stakes. The contest to crown "Ms. Preakness Pink Warrior" honors those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer, and is open to breast cancer survivors and individuals who have made a difference in the lives of anyone fighting breast cancer. “Pink Warrior” is written and performed by Candy Coburn. The winner will be chosen, in-part, through an on-line & interactive process featuring the contestants’ own stories. Essays will be posted here once the contest begins.
The annual “Down the Stretch for SGK” Preakness 5k run/walk, organized by Corrigan Sports, will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Runners circle the iconic track at Pimlico and run past the historic stable area. In 2012, runners were also joined by Doug O'Neill, trainer of Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another, and his staff, who competed in the 5k. To register, click here.
