2008-2009 Grant Partners
In 2008, Komen Maryland gave over $2 million to fund research and direct services in Maryland. Those funds go towards 16 collaborative and innovative breast cancer education, screening, treatment and support projects that reach underserved and at risk populations across Maryland.

Our grant partners provide direct and supportive breast health services including:

  •  free mammograms and clinical breast exams
  • support groups for young breast cancer survivors
  • meals delivered to women undergoing treatment
  • outreach workers for the Hispanic and Korean communities
  • free mental health and counseling for women and their families

We also fund four CRAFT (Clinical Research Affiliate Funded Trials) grants to encourage local participation in clinical trials, particularly among minority women.

Additionally, we have funded the third year of our innovative Komen Maryland Affiliate Nursing Partnership: Advancing Education and Practice at the University of Maryland School of Nursing Our 2008-2009 grant cycle marks the first year of a new partnership with Johns Hopkins University to fund A Survivorship Program for Breast Cancer: A Transition for Patients and Providers.
