On May 8, 2007, Queenie's battle with breast cancer ended peacefully.

February 2004

Dear Friends & Family,

I am writing this letter to ask you to join my husband Michael “Big Sal” and I in our Charity Golf Classic to raise money for the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for research, education, screening and treatment in the fight against Breast Cancer.

As you may know, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in December 2000. Instead of planning our Christmas holiday with friends and family, we were faced with the devastating news that literally changed our lives at that moment. It wasn’t the fear of knowing what I had to reflect on in the coming months with surgery, chemo, radiation and physical therapy – it was the fear of not knowing how Michael and I were going to deal with this and how it would change our lives. I never knew how powerful love could be until you see the one you love living through that pain with you. Michael’s determination to see and reach the light at the end of the tunnel was the key to our surviving this battle. And this battle was our savior to meet each day with renewed faith. Waking up everyday with the uncertainty of this disease makes us strive even harder to win this battle -- a battle that has attacked us over and over since that day in December.

In October 2006, I had surgery to remove a tumor that was entangled on nerves. This left me with no feeling in my left arm from the elbow down and no hand function. Because of the risks involved in the surgery, I also developed lymphedema in my left arm and will always have that for the rest of my life. One month after my surgery, I went back to work full-time and go to occupational therapy twice weekly for my arm. In November, I became the 1st person selected into a vaccine research study at Johns Hopkins. Part of the treatment at Hopkins includes weekly treatments of chemo. The study is expected to last approximately 6-8 months and so far, my treatments have been good. The next year (2007) still getting treatment, but know the cancer has spread to the lungs, bones & treatments aren’t working.

Through the years, we have been active supporters for the Komen Maryland Affiliate. We, along with friends and family, have raised money and participated in their annual RACE FOR THE CURE in Maryland. In 2001, we formed a team called QUEENIE’S CRUSADERS and had members of our team reach out to others for pledges to raise money. This Crusade was the beginning of our pledge to help the Affiliate and others in the fight against Breast Cancer.

On May 8, 2007 @ 5:58am, Queenie’s battle with cancer ended peacefully. This year, we are hosting our 2nd Queenie’s Memorial Charity Golf Classic at The Links & Challedon, Mt. Airy, Maryland. This letter is your invitation to join us and for you to reach out to others in helping us raise money for QUEENIE’S CRUSADERS. For more details, contact Michael Frocke at 301-807-2838 or Bigsal0007@aol.com.

I hope you and others will help support us this year at the Golf Classic or at the annual RACE FOR THE CURE on October 19th, 2008.

Thank you!
