Join us for The Many Faces of Breast Cancer 2011 educational symposium at the New Psalmist Baptist Church for a celebration of sisterhood and survivorship. CancerCare, in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute: Office of Cancer Survivorship and Office of Communications and Education, LIVESTRONG, American Cancer Society, Intercultural Cancer Council, Living Beyond Breast Cancer and National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, is pleased to invite you to participate in a free, four-part workshop series. The series will take place on Tuesdays, from 1:30-2:30 pm Eastern Time – April 12, May 10, June 14 and July 12. You can listen to these workshops on the telephone or via live streaming through the internet.

This free series, presented by CancerCare, is made possible by support from the National Cancer Institute and LIVESTRONG and offers cancer survivors, their families, friends and health care professionals practical information to help them cope with concerns that arise after treatment ends.

Part I, Chemobrain: The Impact of Cancer Treatments on Memory, Thinking and Attention, will be presented on April 12th.

Thursday, April 14: 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Join us for the Komen Distinguished Lecture, Breast Cancer Survivorship: Defining a New Normal. Breast cancer can occur at any age, and survivors across the lifespan have unique needs. This lecture by Dr. Patricia A. Ganz will emphasize the growing number of breast cancer survivors and the diversity of their post-treatment requirements. These include the trajectory of recovery, the common symptoms and problems experienced, and the need for continued focus on health promotion and disease prevention. This free event will take place at  the University of Maryland School of Nursing (655 West Lombard Street, Baltimore, MD 21201). Register online!

Thursday, April 14: 7 p.m.
The Bowie Baysox Baseball Club is hosting Pack the Park for Pink Ticket Promotion for Opening Night, the season kick-off event. From March 1, 2011 to March 25, 2011, Bowie Baysox Baseball Club, LLC will donate 50% of the retail sales price of each ticket for the April 14, 2011 season opener sold on www.baysox.com using the special offer code “PINK”. Saturday, April 30: 8 a.m.
The Oxford Day 10K Run/5K Walk will take off on Saturday morning, April 30th, filling the streets of Oxford, Maryland with runners and walkers. This is the eleventh anniversary of the popular run/walk for breast care support, which kicks off the festivities of Oxford Day. The run begins at 8:00 am and the walk begins at 8:30 am. Both begin and end at the Oxford Community Center. All participants will receive a lite breakfast, water and a tee shirt designed by a local artist. Saturday, May 14: 10 a.m.
This year the Preakness festivities start on May 14th with the 2nd running of The Peoples Preakness 5K. The course will start and circle the famous Pimlico Race Course. The first mile covers the dirt loop that the thoroughbreds will race on just one week later. (Note: the dirt will be prepped to be runner friendly.) The course continues with a tour of the Pimlico grounds before finishing back in the Infield. The 5K race begins at 10 a.m. between the early morning horse training and the live afternoon racing. Friday, May 20
For the second consecutive year, Pimlico Race Course and Komen Maryland will partner for Black-Eyed Susan Day and the People's Pink Party on Friday, May 20, 2011. Black Eyed Susan Day will consist of the Lady Legends for the Cure Race II, consisting of retired female jockeys returning to complete against one another, a female jockey challenge, consisting of six female riders competing to accumulate the most amount of points during the day, and, of course, the 87th running of the Black Eyed Susan Stakes.

Other events taking place include the Miss Preakness Pink Warrior Essay Contest, the "Down the Stretch for SGK" Preakness 5k and the People's Pink Party breast cancer survivor recognition event.

Pimlico will donate 10% of all Black-Eyed Susan Turfside Terrace ticket sales to Komen Maryland, including the Friday portion of the two-day Terrace ticket. Please visit the Preakness Web site for ticket information.

100.7 The Bay is hosting their first ever The Bay BBQ Bash. A family friendly event, the day's signature event will be an amateur BBQ competition. There will also be live music throughout the day, vintage cars from the Hereford Zone Car Show, bbq from great Baltimore restaurant, a beer garden and games for the whole family. Macy's department store is hosting their annual Shop for a Cause day where supporters can receive 25% off merchandise by purchasing a discount coupon from Komen Maryland for a $5 donation. Supporters can purchase their coupons here. Coupons will be mailed out for all donations received prior to Friday, August 19, 2011. All donations made between Saturday, August 20 and Friday, August 26, 2011 will require an in person coupon pick-up from the Komen Maryland Office in Towson.

Winestock 2011! A family-friendly music festival that will benefit Komen Maryland, with a minimum guarantee of $5,000, featuring music groups ranging from rock, blues and reggae. Komen Maryland is hosting its first symposium on the Eastern Shore: Thinking Pink: A Celebration of Sisterhood; Breast Health for Life 2011. The event will take place at the UMES Student Services Center (11868 Academic Oval, Princess Anne, MD 21853). The symposium is free and open to the public; however, advanced registration is recommended as capacity is limited. Please register for the event by September 23rd.

Please help the Baltimore City Fire Department Honor Guard team support the fight against breast cancer. Undoubtedly each and everyone has someone in their life touched by breast cancer. In accordance with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the BCFD has created and received permission for all department members to wear this specific shirt on night shifts during the month of October. Tuesday Night Angels offer the opportunity to hear words of breast cancer patients as they cope with the disease. Drawing from a breast cancer writing group, this 1-hour readers' theater performance offers tears, smiles and inspiration. Performance takes place at 3 p.m. at the Towson Unitarian Universalist Church at 1710 Dulaney Valley Road, Lutherville, MD 21093; suggest donation of $15.

Friday, October 14: 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
AQUA Pools & Spas will host “Poolin’ for the Cure” to benefit Komen Maryland. The event will be held on Friday October 14, 2011 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at AQUA on Mistletoe Drive in Easton, MD.

The event will be catered by Mason’s of Easton and will feature a full open bar, a live and silent auction, music by Kentavius Jones, a coffee bar by Coffee for a Cause, and a fireside smores station.

Komen Maryland will participate as an official Charity Partner in the 2011 Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival. Komen Maryland Marathon for the Cure® team members will have the option to participate in the full marathon, half marathon and team relay while raising money in the fight against breast cancer.

The Hard Rock Café in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor presents national recording artist JoJo live in concert. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hard Rock Café is raising awareness and funds through benefit concerts. The performance by JoJo is the first of two PINKTOBER concerts to take place at the Baltimore location. Click here for additional information.

Thursday, October 27: 8 p.m.
The Hard Rock Café in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor will celebrate PINKTOBER with a benefit concert by Mason Vixon and Will Hill, who will ROCK the stage on Thursday, October 27, 2011. The show begins at 8 p.m. and a $5 donation at the door is suggested. Come out, see the show, and support a great cause!

Future Fitness in Crofton, Maryland will host its first "Bootcamp for Boobies." This 4 hour long marathon bootcamp class will allow participants to take four different types of bootcamp classes and burn their personal energy to raise money for the cause. Gamers and supporters will be heading to the Bermuda Triangle on Halloween for a Cosplay Caucus Cruise (C3). Fans will walk the red carpet in costume (cosplay) to compete for several best dressed honors, then caucus to determine the best video games. Onboard activities will also include rock climbing, bungee trampoline, and a roast of infamous “Gaming in the Clinton Years” narrator George Wood, whose friends and family will reflect on the surprise endurance of his much debated work.

The Pink Event is an annual women-focused expo that is dedicated to showcasing women businesses, while supporting Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence non-profit organizations.
