The "Buy a Bead" project was created to raise and awareness and funds for breast cancer. The creator strung 40,000 beads onto a single strand, by hand and by herself to represent the number of women and men who die from breast cancer every year. In November 2010 the project received a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records as the holder for the "longest string of beads strung by a single person" category. The beads are now being sold for $1 to honor and memorialize those who have battled breast cancer. To purchase a bead to honor someone in your life or to read about the program, click here.
