BALTIMORE, MD (November 23, 2009) - The Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced this week that next year’s Race for the Cure will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2010 in Hunt Valley, MD.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure Responds to U.S. Preventative Services Task Force Recommendations
DALLAS, TX (November 17, 2009) - Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s leading breast cancer advocacy organization, has carefully reviewed the data and new recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) concerning mammography screening. The U.S. Preventative Task Force recommended yesterday that women between the ages of 40 and 49 should not have routine breast cancer screenings due to lack of proven benefits.
Komen Maryland Thanks Race Participants
Preliminary data shows us that over 29,000 people registered and so far we have raised $2.7 million. We hope to exceed last year’s total of $2.9 million. Every dollar raised will help us to fund more local programs and national research. We are still collecting donations on our Race website, www.komenmd.org. Race photos can also be found there.

Komen Maryland Releases Report on State of Breast Cancer in Maryland
Baltimore, MD (August 5, 2009) Women in Maryland are not diagnosed with breast cancer any more frequently than women in the rest of the country, but they are dying of breast cancer at higher rates. Maryland is ranked fifth in the nation for breast cancer death rates. This year alone, it is estimated that 810 Maryland woman will die from breast cancer. Komen Maryland conducted a 10 month study to evaluate the state of breast cancer in their service area.
Komen Maryland Unveils 'Support Your Local Breasts' Campaign
Baltimore, MD (July 28, 2009) Support Your Local Breasts, is a campaign based on the premise of “telling your story” and the physical and emotional connection to local breast cancer survivors and co-survivors. The Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure wanted a campaign that would distinguish it from other breast cancer events and non-profits, promote their year-round presence in the community apart from the Race, and share survivor stories to appeal to the different constituents in the state.
Komen Maryland Welcomes New Board Members and Announces New Board President
Baltimore, MD (April 6, 2009) Komen Maryland’s board of directors recently elected three new members, whose terms began April 1, 2009. Komen Maryland welcomes to the board Michelle Levin, Ann Musser, and Kelly Swoope-Holloway. Additionally, the board of directors elected the first physician board president for Komen Maryland, Dr. Stacey Keen.
Komen Maryland Affiliate Awards Over $2.5 Million to Fight Breast Cancer and Support Survivors
Baltimore, MD (April 3, 2009) The Komen Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® awarded grants totaling more than $1.8 million to 23 programs across the state of Maryland on April 1, 2009. At least $700,000 in additional funds is earmarked for national breast cancer research for a total of over $2.5 million dedicated to fighting breast cancer.

St. Mary’s Hospital Receives $10,000 Grant for Breast Exams
St. Mary’s Hospital and the Women’s Wellness Program received a new grant from the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to screen under or uninsured women younger than 40 years old, who fall within the income guidelines, and may be at risk for breast cancer.
