![]() For Immediate Release Contact: The 15th Annual Educational Symposium— Preserving the Promise: Imagine life without breast cancer ™ Baltimore, MD (February 25, 2009) In the United States today, there are more than two million breast cancer survivors, making them the largest group of cancer survivors in the country. The Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® sets aside one day of celebration and education for breast cancer survivors, those newly diagnosed, their family, friends, concerned community members and professionals in the field. The 15th annual symposium, sponsored by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, will cover topics on breast cancer risk reduction as well as treatment and quality of life issues. Held at the Baltimore Marriott Hunt Valley Inn on Saturday, April 25th, 2009, attendees will gain information on living with breast cancer as well as have the chance meet and share with other survivors and professionals. Attendees in the past have commented that “the quality of the speakers and the camaraderie of the attendees made for a special event.” This year’s symposium includes keynote speaker, Kathy LaTour, a nationally known author, educator, and cancer survivor who will perform her one-woman show “One Mutant Cell,” a humorous and poignant account of her journey through breast cancer. Participants also have the chance to attend informative and empowering breakout sessions lead by local experts. While the symposium provides excellent information, Komen also strives to ensure a warm healing atmosphere different from most educational events. Attendees can visit the community resource exhibitors and connect with area organizations such as local breast centers, medical equipment providers, prosthesis fitters and support agencies. The cost to attend the April 25th event is $30.00 before March 13th and $35.00 after March 13th. The registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and program materials. A limited number of scholarships are available. Advance registration is required. Those interested in attending should call the Maryland Affiliate at 410-938-8990 to obtain a brochure and registration form or register online at the Komen Maryland website, www.komenmd.org. ### |
