Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Partners with Pimlico Race Course

Pimlico Race Course and Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, are partnering to raise funds to aid awareness and research.

Pimlico has pledged to raise a minimum of $100,000 for Komen for the Cure. 50% of the funds raised will go to the Komen Maryland Affiliate to use for community outreach programs in Maryland and 50% will be used for lifesaving breast cancer research.

We still have some seats open for our annual educational symposium this Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 8:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.  Join us at this FREE event to learn how breast cancer impacts you and your community and to connect with valuable resources at our community organization and hospital exhibition. Komen Maryland Awards $2.2 Million in Community Grants

Today Komen Maryland proudly announced its grant recipients for fiscal year 2010 at the first annual Komen Grant Award Event, held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture . This year’s grants total more than $2.2 million and are being awarded to 27 programs across the state of Maryland.

The more than $2.2 million in Komen Maryland Grants will support a variety of innovative programs that offer a comprehensive range of breast health services, ranging from screening and treatment to support services across the state of Maryland. Additionally, 25% of funds from Komen Maryland go toward funding national research. This year Komen Maryland has earmarked $800,000 for local and national breast cancer research. That means Komen Maryland has dedicated over $3 million dollars to fighting breast cancer this year!

National Volunteer Month

April is National Volunteer Month, and we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful volunteers!

The National Volunteer Month theme for 2010 is “Celebrating People in Action,” and Komen Maryland volunteers truly embody this theme. From Race volunteers to committee members, breast health educators, office support and volunteers representing Komen at health fairs, our volunteers keep our affiliate moving and progressing as we continue to work in our community.

Promise Me

We are proud to announce that our founder and CEO, Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, will release her powerful and inspiring memoir, Promise Me, this September.

Promise Me is the story of a promise Nancy made to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen.  This promise launched Nancy on a thirty-year-long mission to change the way the world thought of, spoke of, and treated breast cancer.

Spend your lunch hour with Komen Maryland! We offer a FREE breast health education program tailored to the needs of any organization – from local businesses, to church and community organizations! For the sixth consecutive year, Major League Baseball is proud to partner with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to "Go to Bat Against Breast Cancer." Saturday - Monday, June 5-7, 2010
Ride Across Maryland
The 10th Annual Dick Gelfman's Ride Across Maryland is a 3-day/2-night event that offers motorcyclists (and is also open to cars, trucks, and vans) multiple locations to depart from before heading across the state to Ocean City, Maryland. During the past nine years, the non-profit Ride Across Maryland Foundation has donated over $1.7 million to Komen Maryland. In addition to the motorcycle ride, there will be a 5K Run for the Fight Against Breast Cancer in Columbia at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010.  Click here for more information. 

There are many volunteer opportunities at both the motorcycle ride and 5K run. Please contact Nicole at nicole@rideacrossmaryland.org or 410-992-9999.

Volunteers are needed to help at Columbia Mall for the 5K run and for registration at the mall, the Poker Run table, and handing out water, both for the 5k and Motorcycle ride.  Once in Ocean City volunteers are needed to help with parking, registration, handing out premiums, trash, greeters, and motorcycle games.
