Grants for Fiscal Year April 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011 were awarded to 26 local non-profit organizations offering breast health outreach and breast cancer screening and support programs across the state. Additional funds are earmarked for local and national breast cancer research for a total of over $2 million. Komen-funded research has touched every major breast cancer advance of the past 25 years. On Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, Otis Webb Brawley, M.D. will present “New Evidence on the Role of Race and Ethnicity in Breast Cancer”. This lecture will explore all aspects of the etiology, treatment, and survival rates of breast cancer in relation to socioeconomic, genetic, and racial contributors to disparities. Dr. Brawley is the chief medical and scientific officer and executive vice president at the American Cancer Society. Register online for this free event by clicking here.

The keynote speaker is Sandra Chandler, daughter of “Baltimore’s Mother Teresa,” Bea Gaddy. She will share the story of her mother’s breast cancer and the powerful message of prevention and early detection.
Sunday, March 21, 2010 Baltimore Mariners' Breast Cancer Awareness Night
Come out and see the Baltimore Mariners take on the Fayetteville Guard during the Mariners' annual women's breast cancer awareness night featuring Komen Maryland at First Mariner's Arena in downtown Baltimore. For every $10-plus ticket sold, $1 will be donated to Komen Maryland.
Saturday - Monday, June 5-7, 2010 Ride Across Maryland The 10th Annual Dick Gelfman's Ride Across Maryland is a 3-day/2-night event that offers motorcyclists (and is also open to cars, trucks, and vans) multiple locations to depart from before heading across the state to Ocean City, Maryland. During the past nine years, the non-profit Ride Across Maryland Foundation has donated over $1.7 million to Komen Maryland.

The Anne Arundel Women's Golf Organization is hosting the "Play 18 for a Cure" tournament to benefit Komen Maryland.
Rally for the Cure®
Rally for the Cure is a grassroots program that works to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Volunteer event "Ambassadors" host and plan tennis and golf (or another activity) events locally. Rally provides all the materials to support the event including event decorations, a prize, participant goody bags and other breast cancer awareness items. Click here to learn more.
