For the second consecutive year, Pimlico Race Course and the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® join together to raise funds to aid awareness on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday, May 20, 2011.
The People’s Pink Party, Black-Eyed Susan Day's premier event, will welcome the general public for live races including the Lady Legends for the Cure II, the inaugural $30,000 all-female Jockey Challenge, the $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, and special events throughout the day.
87 breast cancer survivors will be invited as guests to Pimlico, where they will be honored in festivities throughout the day. Pimlico will donate 10% of all Friday Turfside Terrace ticket sales (including the Friday portion of the two-day Preakness ticket) to Komen Maryland.
Steel Magnolia, courtesy of Big Machine, & The Lunabelles, courtesy of BNA Records, perform live in the Turfside Terrace, with host Laurie DeYoung of WPOC 93.1, official radio sponsor of the Turfside Terrace. The first is about Black-Eyed Susan Day and The People's Pink Party and the second talks about the "Down the Stretch for SGK" Preakness 5k and the Ms. Preakness Pink Warrior contest.
Pimlico and Komen Maryland are pleased to welcome back a special opportunity for an individual to serve as Ms. Preakness Pink Warrior, an official ambassador of the Preakness, representing the Maryland Jockey Club at Preakness events and on Preakness Day, including the presentation of the Woodlawn Vase on the storied cupola after the 136th Preakness Stakes. The contest to crown "Ms. Preakness Pink Warrior" honors those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer, and is open to breast cancer survivors and individuals who have made a difference in the lives of anyone fighting breast cancer. “Pink Warrior” is written and performed by Candy Coburn. The winner will be chosen, in-part, through an on-line & interactive process featuring the contestants’ own stories. To vote for your favorite essay, please click here.
